According to FBI National Press Office on January 1, 2025 at approximately 3:15am CST, an individual drove a pick up truck into a crowd of people on Bourbon street in New Orleans, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens others. The suspect then exited the vehicle and opened fire on responding Officers striking two uniform deputies before being killed by return fire. Two local law enforcement officers were transported to a local hospital. The deceased subject was identified as 42 year old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas. Investigations reveals Jabbar rented the Ford pickup truck from Turo, Which is an AirB and B style car rental service provided by individual car owners. FBI is working to confirm exactly how he came into possession of the vehicle according to a statement made by the Federal Bureau of Investigations national press office.

A verity of weapons and a potential IED (Improvised Explosive Devise) was located in the deceased subjects vehicle. Other potential IED’s were located in the French Quarter and it appears they were placed strategically before the attack. The FBI’s special agent bomb technicians are working with local law enforcement partners to determine if those IED’s are capable of detonating, and they are working to render those devices safe according to a statement from the national press office.

Bourbon Street, New Orleans Days Following The Attack
Community members, law enforcement officials and religious clerics from multiple faiths all came together to support the victims and their families, also to condemn and denounce the actions of Shamsud-Din Jabbar. Bourbon Street in New Orleans re-opened to the public the first weekend of the new year, a candlelight vigil with the victims portraits can be seen as thousands of community members and tourist pay their respects. New Orleans Hope Ambassador and community activist Master P shared a message of hope for New Orleans And the United States stating “We won’t be afraid and we will bounce back”, reassuring the community of the resilience of America and Greater New Orleans at large. Federal officials released an update to the public confirming Shamsud-Din Jabbar acted alone and there were no accomplices in this horrific attack.
